In a time when environmental awareness is more crucial than ever, the Erasmus+ "Reliable" project is making a meaningful impact by fostering eco-literacy among young people across Europe. This partnership between Poland, Turkey, Romania, and Spain aims to inspire students and educators to become proactive stewards of the environment, with a focus on sustainability, practical learning, and cross-cultural exchange.

Project Kickoff in Nidzica, Poland

Our journey began in Nidzica, Poland, where students and teachers from each partner country gathered for an enriching week filled with hands-on activities, workshops, and cultural explorations. From 21 to 25 October 2024, participants engaged in diverse activities designed to spark an understanding of environmental responsibility and build a network of eco-literate young leaders. Each day brought new experiences and learning opportunities, offering an unforgettable start to the Reliable project.

Highlights from the Week

Throughout the week, participants explored various themes related to environmental sustainability:

  1. Cultural Welcome and Logo Contest: The first day set the tone with a warm welcome by Nidzica's school authorities and a cultural presentation. Students participated in a logo contest, voting on designs to represent the project. This day served as an important moment of introduction, allowing everyone to connect with their counterparts from different countries.

  2. Field Trips and Workshops on Environmental Topics: One of the most memorable excursions took place on Tuesday, with visits to the Elbląg Canal, a waste disposal plant, and the Gdynia Aquarium. Each location provided unique insights into local environmental practices, from waste management to marine conservation. Students were able to witness the power of nature, innovation, and sustainability in action.

  3. Hands-On Learning in Kamionka Pottery Village: The group visited Kamionka Pottery Village, where students learned about biodiversity, apitherapy (using bee products for well-being), and ecological gardening. Workshops in the village inspired participants to think about the value of nature preservation and traditional crafts, offering a real connection to sustainable practices.

  4. Exploring Olsztyn and Eco-Conscious Practices: Thursday’s journey took participants to Olsztyn, where they explored the University of Warmia and Mazury's Center for Education and Innovation. Students were introduced to innovative approaches in agriculture and the importance of dietary choices on health and the environment.

  5. Celebrating with a Closing Ceremony: To conclude the event, participants attended a closing ceremony, which included the planting of an Erasmus+ partner tree on Wyborska Street in Nidzica. This act symbolized the project’s commitment to nurturing a sustainable future, leaving behind a tangible reminder of the positive impact Reliable hopes to create.

Looking Ahead

In March 2025, our next gathering will take place in Sibiu, Romania, where we’ll continue building on the insights and connections made in Nidzica. With each mobility event, students deepen their understanding of environmental challenges and expand their commitment to making a difference. As they bring these lessons back to their communities, they embody the spirit of the Reliable project.
